THE CARNETS is a deterritorialized drawing exchange between local and international artists. It is a migrant drawing journal, traveling from one location to another, according to where participating artists find themselves when taking part in the exchange. Each artist receives a carnet and adds a drawing intervention to it before sending it to the next artist's destination. The completed carnets are collective works, eclipsing any sense of authorship while displaying the one-off singularity of each finished work. THE CARNETS explores the growing dislocation in the way contemporary artists live and make work. It seeks to cross the boundaries of nationality, cultural references and geographic limitations. It is an invitation for the artists to blend their respective practices and create a dialogue through drawing which is process-based, plural and experimental. This drawing project allows artists to collaborate in an anonymous and spontaneous way. The resulting works translate a sense of ‘metissage’, blurring the contributors’ identities, artistic styles and geographies.
